I wonder why when they found his truck why didnt they do some testing cause ill bet the buisness was burned down to destroy evidence and I think cops blew a huge opportunity
Pay attention! I have just seen the disappearance of John Spira for the umpteenth time. It comes across that no one has the guts to blame the ex-wife. This man was a wealthy man(!) and he was unloading her!! A plane? A popular singing group? He had his own very lucrative business installing cable! The woman he was married to was losing his money and house that she would not let him have. Cash cow, that was what he was to her. Talk about that for a change. Who would rip down search-posters about him??? The ex-wife. Who was caught on camera, in another broadcast, ripping down *his* posters with her pals???? THE EX-WIFE!!!
He met her in a bar!!! Man-eater, money-hound, get-me-a rich-man!!!! What does that make her? White trash and worse. The hot babe ready to take him on because he had sat in that bar and told her about his wealth not understanding that he was in going to be in trouble.
She killed John Spira and she got rid of his body with the help of her trash friends. Bottom line. The cops won’t dig into this because she has some kind of power over them. Maybe she is the daughter of someone well known to the cops?? Ever think of that? Home-town sticks together more than you think.
LOOK INTO WHAT THIS EX– HAS BEEN DOING ALL THESE YEARS.
GOOD, GOOD LUCK. I want to hear that this murder has been solved and the killer on death row the next Discovery International runs it again.
As a retired Calif Sheriffs detective and being smoewhat familar with this case,my suggestion would be to replace the large sign that was put up near his busisness, the one that was torn down twice already, stake it out and either grab the person or persons that remove it for the third time or follow them, its worth a try and it just may lead you to find John, or what happened to him, after all the effort that has gone into locating him i am somewhat amazed this has not been done…..what have you got to lose? a few dollars…..i would be willing to help you with the costs or even constructing and putting the sign in place as well as arresting the person who destroys it…..just a thought…P.E.D
To the family of John- I watched the episode of disappeared this morning as I always do but the story of John particularly touched me for some reason, I think it was his passion for music or perhaps seeing how much his family loved him. whatever it was I can not go to sleep, i can not imagine the frustration and pain you are going through my prayers are with you. I wanted to suggest something that might bring you peace, some people don’t believe in this but hey its worth a try. Did you ever consider contacting a pshycic medium? I saw if you give them something that belonged to the deceased or a picture they can sometimes pick something up. I hope you don’t think I’m weird but this has truly been on my mind all day. I hope that someday your family is brought the closure that you deserve and even more that John deserves. You are in my prayers always. Please keep in touch-my heart & soul goes out to you. Dear Family, sorry for what you are going thru. Just watched the episode Disappearance on ID channel. In a different show, family members put flowers on their loved ones grave and unfortunately the next day the flowers where removed. So they set up a video and stacked out the grave to see who was doing it. Perhaps you should put up another missing banner and stake it out with video and wait to see who removes it. Also another show, they put up a billboard sign with their loved one missing and the reward amount. This was placed in a heavy traffic area near the area where the missing individual frequented.
Just a few thoughts. Hope the best for your family and best for Mr. Spira.

First I would like to say Im very sorry about your loss. I just watched the episode of Disappeared on the ID channel. I immediately came to this website and also tried to find Stephanie on Facebook (I was unable to locate her). I unfortunately don’t have any information for you guys but the biggest piece of advice I could offer any of you is to get in touch with a physic!! I know alot of people are very skeptical about them but there’s been tons of cases where families, etc have at least been able to locate missing people and often find out if there was a killer, etc. There’s a show that comes on the BIO Channel called Psychic investigators that have different psychics that have helped detectives in a broad range of cases. I strongly suggest you all look into contacting one!! At the least it could offer you some form closure. You have my email address so if you would like me to help you on finding a psychic that I’ve seen via tv help out in a good bit of police cases I will. I just saw John’s story on ID TV show, Disappeared. My heart goes out to John’s family and friends. His parents must be heartbroken. It is so sad. I believe his soon to have been x-wife should take the lie detective test.
I just watched John’s disappearance on ID. It appears to me that once the family placed that banner across from his work, it made the person responsible very nervous. I think the banner being placed that close to the location of the disappearance made this person feel as though the spotlight was on that location….. I feel as though there is evidence in that building that this individual wants to destroy. I am not in law enforcement, however, my suggestion would be to put up two more banners close by and use video survelience to capture this impulsive person. My guess is within days they would be ripped down again. This individual’s freedom is at stake, and does not want ANYONE looking further. I hope the family can get the closure that they so deserve.

I’ve seen johns story several times , I can’t help but wonder about 2 things . 1st was john up for a big contract in his business that he may have been competeing with another co. that may have ties to local law enforcement or political with big money. The other is the very idea that someone would destroy the banners makes me believe that there is a hate factor involved and the answer may be someone close to him . Its a sad story and even more so that local authority isn’t more involved .
Why didn’t someone watch to see WHO was taking down the signs? Why hasn’t anyone figured out the coincidence of the dissaperance and the divorce?
I’ve just seen John’s story on ID and couldn’t get out of my mind that on two occasions someone ripped down his banner. Have you ever thought of putting up another one with a reward and then videotape and see who shows up to take it down.
i havent seen anything so idk if it happened or not but im just curious why another flyer or banner wasnt put up when they were being destroyed and then put under surveilence so the next time it got destroyed you guys would see who did it. anyways im actually very curious if i could recieve an email back or if this would be of any help to you then i would like to know. i just watched the dissapeared show on discovery channel right now and so i checked out this website.
put up new banners YOU MUST and then video the locations!!! You WILL catch them tearing it down. God bless you
I just watched the Disappeared episode featuring John’s story. Stephanie, have I seen this before on a different unsolved show? I know I have seen this whole story with the same family and friends being interviewed, but in addition, I believe the other show may have caught the wife/ex-wife on video ripping down John’s missing posters off of street posts, am I right about that or am I confusing John’s story with another?
Anyway, because I am a little bit of an addict to these types of shows, when all is solved, the police eventually share information that they were withholding from EVERYONE in order to make an accurate arrest and true case against the guilty person(s). I really hope this is the situation here, because it seems so stupid that no one claims to know how the fire started and all the other answers to your simple and obvious questions.
I also have questions as to the ex-wife: how did YOU find out she was dead and did you eventually find out how she died? And I missed the whole part about the other guy, Stubben, you said is a person of interest… was he the business partner who rebuilt the building? I think obviously someone benefitted from an insurance claim and probably destroyed any last stitch of evidence they knew was in the building by setting the fire.
Stephanie, don’t give up girlfriend! It’s been 4 long years, but some of these cases take WAY longer to solve! John seemed like a real down to earth American, one of the good guys. I am so sorry for your loss and the aggravation you are dealing with now, and I will continue to follow this case and pray for you and your family. If you or someone on this board could answer my questions, that would be great.

Thanks Lisa. Yes you are confusing John’s case with another missing person’s case. We did not catch anyone on video messing with the signs though I of course wish we had. I hope you’re right about the reason police are withholding info. As far as Suzanne, I found out because someone emailed me about it. We did confirm it and in fact I have the death certificate which lists her cause of death as heart related though I still doubt that. David Stubben, John’s business partner is NOT a person of interest but I’d like him to be for several reasons: last guy to see John alive, was angry with John over money, plastic sheeting missing from the office, refused lie detector tests, had to go “shovel snow” at Suzanne’s after our first search, John’s car remained in the parking lot. Of course it was Dave and I believe he had help from at least one of his employees; the one who sat there with a smug, satisfied look on his face while my little brother and I were searching. Actually, I’d prefer if he was called a suspect but DuPage has to make this a homicide case first. Anyway, isn’t it always the last guy to see him or her? Yes, David Stubben has rebuilt the building. I’ve been following this case since it was aired on Discovery channel the first time, and I’ve watched it a few times. I was wondering if you have ever tried to speak with a psychic about John’s disappearance. Psychics can usually connect with the dead and/or the missing and give critical information to help solve cases. I am an avid watcher of crime shows, Disappeared, psychic detectives, etc. and I really think speaking with a psychic would be a good idea in this case. I don’t know any personally, but I’d be willing to help you find one if you want. Good luck, and I’m so so sorry for your loss. John sounds like he was a wonderful guy.

Both his wife and business partner and who knows who else?
Why else would the wife initially tell the cops she didn’t think he’d disappeared?

I believe there mush have been evidence in, around, or under that building. And yes whomever is responsible for the foul play was angry with him and close to him. Keep putting the banners up! Have a PI stake it out.

I just saw the crime drama, profiling John on ID. I know you have all tried everything and have your suspicions, but please, please don’t EVER give up!! My heart and soul were torn apart by this story. John was/is such a unique individual and the fact that he came up through the grass roots to become so successful, shows, to me, that anything is possible in America. The truth WILL, one day, come out – it always does.
Stay focused on his biz partner and his ex-wife. There is some connection there with what I am about to say next; Have you ever looked into mob-related connections? I’m from NYC (originally) and they would “offer” businesses “help”. Maybe John did not want to play ball with them, being the honest man he was/is?

I’ve seen this story of John Spira for a second time and it’s disturbing; A psychic would be a good start in finding solutions to this situation; My synopsis ; Is that John’s dissapearence had been planned for a long time. What comes to mind is that it may have began when he was a tank operator in the service. He was befriended by someone by the name of Troy (sorry no last name) who is also from the west suburbs of Chicago…6′ or close ,blue eyes, bald or balding blonde hair, glasses?…Some one like that would know alot about him if they served side by side… Stephonie stated that when John first met Suzi that he was imeadietly befriended by her and she swept him right from the moment as if she already knew who he was…and yeah they were married for some time before they seperated…when they seperated they still lived together, which says that she knew everything about his routine…Unfortunetly
…Unfortunetly I did a set one night and sat down afterawrds and was approched by 3 drifters who enjoyed my performance. The woman that was with them said I played a lot like her ex. I asked “who’s that’” and one of them said “don’t ask or you could be next… it pissed me off and I would never forget who they were… They went by the names of New York Tommy, Illinois Troy and Suzi… That same Suzi that I just saw again in this mornings reairing of Dissapearred…I took these 3 as a threat 4-5 years ago seriously and told a couple of friends that I always wanted to know when these drifters were seen in town again… exspecialy Tommy … word had come back to me around a year ago that Tommy’s girlfriend Suzi had died and he’s back in town…it’s a small world and so some others think it’s easy to just go hide somewhere else. I believe these are the same people involved with the dissapearence of Johnny Spira…as for Tommy and Troy I’m waiting….H.W…Hope this can be some help….Tried to make contact with the Sheriff regarding this matter the fist time I saw the airing but was never contacted in return and didn’t have a computer at the time…until now…

Have you considered filing a wrongful death suit against the business partner, and wife’s estate? I saw this on another case. This would force discovery and has a lower burden of proof than a criminal charge. Statements of the missing plastic wrap and receipts for it, for example. I think police comment that suspicious circumstance furthers this. Aren’t there permits needed for digging? Maybe he dumped the body somewhere they already were digging? It seems premeditated to me. All of these records would come to light. I dont think the employees would be happy to have to answer deposition. Someone who has an obvious way to hide a body isnt going to stray from something easy and that he knows.
Further, I think insurance fraud would be a good avenue to follow. Then, business partner’s wife would have to answer questions about the building and I doubt partner would be happy about that.
What about failed business venture in Bolingbrook? Can 3rd partner offer any insight?
This is just a house of cards that little by little needs to fall.
Just finished watching this case and I totally understand both sides because I am a police officer but I have also had a dear friend go missing who turned up murdered. I know how frustrating it can be when they start looking at things that seem crazy or way off the mark. It happened with my friend Kim. She had 2 children was a week away from her divorce and starting a new life, then vanished without a trace. Detectives heard rumors from stupid people, things like she flew off to Australia with a guy and left her kids…Those of us who knew her knew this was totally not even remotely possible. In my experience these types of things are usually way more simple in nature. If it’s true his business partner refused a lie detector and had a fight with him and was last to see him then that should be the focus of the investigation. Don’t give up, stay the course, stay on top of the officials who should be investigating all of this and never stop your own search. My friend was found after her husband who killed her died. An employee we think helped hide the body gave us a tip and we ended up finding her at a construction site where her body was his in a wall. Someone knows what happened and unfortunately these cases can take years. Also as stated in other post police often keep information from the family and the public that can help close the case so I hope that is some of whats happening here. Would like to know more about the arson. Arson is not hard to prove and if it was truly and arson and not accidental it has to be connected to Johns disappearance in some way. Keep the faith I will keep you in my prayers that you some day get the closure all victims deserve.

Where on earth did anyone get the idea that Suzanne’s house was in foreclosure and that she had to move? When she moved no foreclosure whatsoever had been filed. I think Suzanne mislead people into believing she was in this horrible position and that people should feel sorry for her.
